A university student was discovered dead in his fraternity house in Pennsylvania just weeks before he was expected to graduate.
Bucknell University senior Christian Samay, 22, of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, was found at the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity shortly before 2pm on Saturday, according to Union County Coroner Dominick Adamo.
‘It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the death of a Bucknell student on campus today. Together we mourn the passing of Christian Samay ’24,’ stated university President John Bravman in a message to the campus community on Saturday.
‘This is an unspeakable loss for the Bucknell community, and our hearts go out Christian’s family and friends.’
Bravman added that ‘his death was unrelated to last night’s active shooter alert and campus lockdown, and that the circumstances are not suspicious’.
The campus in Lewisburg was locked down for about 45 minutes until state police determined that an alert causing it was a hoax from Virginia.
At 1.47pm on Saturday, the university issued an alert to the campus community regarding an investigation at the frat.
Samay’s cause of death was not immediately known. His autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
He was pursuing his bachelor’s degree in political science, according to his LinkedIn profile. He had interned with Digital Capital Advisors in New York City, the KBW investment firm in New Jersey and M&T bank in Baltimore.
The university is offered counseling services by phone over the weekend and other resources online.
‘I call upon all Bucknellians to support each other in this difficult time, and to keep Christian’s family in your prayers,’ stated Bravman.
Lewisburg is about 160 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
Samay was found dead a day before Qingyang Zhan, a 20-year-old woman attending Bowdoin College, was discovered deceased in a parking lot in Topsham, Maine, close to her campus.
