A novice gambler who didn’t know what a stake is has scooped more than £3,000 from a free bet at Cheltenham races.

Faye Parry, 28, had a free £20 bet with Coral and used it on a fivefold accumulator – which came good yesterday as the race results trickled in.

In total she made £3.095.59 off her free bet – and she’s jokingly apologised to other betters who weren’t so lucky.

Picking five horses to win each way, she backed Slade Steel in the first race of the festival at 1.30pm at 4/1.

Faye also backed Gaelic Warrior – at 9/4 – in the second race of the day at 2.10pm.

Then Chianti Classico in the third race at 2.50pm at 13/2.

She also lumped on State Man – 4/9 – in the 3.30pm race and finally Lossiemouth in the 4.10pm race at 8/11.

Faye, who’s from Liverpool, posted her winnings online while other punters were in awe of the bet and began to ask questions.

This led Faye to reveal that she had no idea what they meant when she was asked what the stake was, replying: ‘What’s that?’

Faye said: ‘Why’s everyone crying because I won money but didn’t know what a stake was. Sorry to all your betters. Can’t believe I’ve just won three grand.’
