A woman who claims she was left paralysed after being mishandled by paramedics is suing UK health authorities.
The claimant, who has not been identified, broke her neck in August 2021 after drunkenly diving into the shallow end of a swimming pool at Infusion, a swingers club in Blackpool.
She says that the paramedics who responded to the incident caused more damage pulling her out of the pool, leaving her paralysed.
Since then, she has not been able to walk, work or live independently, reports the Mirror citing documents filed with the High Court.
The woman is now claiming £10 million in damages against the North West Ambulance Services Trust and Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for personal injury damages and losses.
Court documents reportedly state that club staff who noticed her floating in the water were careful in removing her from the pool while the emergency services were called by her partner.
These also add that the medics who responded used a wheelchair and did not support her head, as well as dropping her to the floor while moving her out and into the ambulance.
The woman claims this shows evidence that the medics and subsequently hospital staff did not consider the possibility she had injured her neck, thereby failing to take appropriate action to prevent her injuries from worsening.
As of 2020, its believed that around 1.5 million people in the UK take part in the ‘swinging’ scene, a lifestyle in which married or otherwise romantically involved people attend clubs or organised gatherings to participate in sex acts with others.
Recent years have seen these groups and their activities shed some of their historic stigma, with several dedicated clubs now dotted around the country, throwing weekly events that can often attract attendees in the tens of thousands.
Infusion, the club in Blackpool, has previously made headlines after a fight broke out over one patron mistaking an innocent request from another for a pass at their partner.
