WWE superstar Sheamus has fired back at cruel trolls who have body-shamed him after his epic comeback.

The former world champion made his return to the ring on Monday Night Raw earlier this week as he wrestled his first match since June 2023, and he has been forced to address unwarranted comments about his weight.

Sheamus, who was announced at 267lbs for his first bout back, was visibly bulkier as he hit the ring, which is more than understandable given his long injury layoff.

Plus, as most people pointed out, he still looks to be in fantastic shape.

As a reminder that there are real people behind the larger than life superstars, after the response to his return he simply tweeted: ‘I’m just big boned 🤫’

Apparently that wasn’t enough for some people, and now the Celtic Warrior has had to issue a plea to the trolls, urging them to take their ‘best shots’ before insisting then it’s time to move on.

Sharing a side by side photoshop alongside an edit of him in McDonald’s, the 46-year-old wrestler wrote: ‘Ok Ok take your best shots.. Whalemus, Too Many Pies, etc.. and then we’re done with the photoshopping & shaming.’

No explanation is needed, but Sheamus proved himself to have more class than his critics as he noted he wasn’t actually expecting to be back in the ring so soon, as he’d been targeting the WWE Draft, which kicks off on Friday, April 26 and concludes the following Monday.

He continued: ‘I was aiming for the Draft & got an early call-up. My bad. On me. Been sleeping in the gym ever since SO watch this space 👊🏻 i appreciate the love too #Sheamoose’

Fans have rallied behind him on social media, with plenty pointing out that the trolls don’t deserve a response, while X user @KalisticLive wrote: ‘You are in better shape than half of the world. People are overreacting, welcome back.’

‘The fact that you got to wrestle and did well was more than enough. So happy to see u back GOAT 🐐,’ tweeted @SamirParvez, while @iyosthelimiit added: ‘You look great do not listen to them!’

And @thebellasfave said: ‘All the people making fun of you have probably never stepped foot in a gym their entire life.’

Meanwhile, Sheamus also revealed this week that there was a chance he would never wrestle again, and as recently as two months ago he thought he might have to hang up his boots.

Alongside photos and clips from his injury recovery, he wrote: ‘The road back to the ring is slow, rough and unimaginally painful. 2 months ago i thought i was hanging up my boots for good but a lot of doctors, trainers and physios helped get me cleared to do what i love.. fight. #thisiswhatwedo (sic)’

Thankfully, the 22-year veteran is still raring to go, and he could have the Intercontinental Championship in his sights after previously making it very clear he wanted the title as the one he’s yet to win in his career.

Sheamus has always taken ‘tremendous pride’ in his work, and he wants that to shine through whether he’s on television or performing at live events around the world.

‘If I don’t go out there and put my heart and soul into it, then what am I doing, you know? I love what I do, I wear my heart on my sleeve and I go out there and I give everything,’ he exclusively told Metro.co.uk.

‘The banger matches, everything, every time I come out of that ring it looks like I’ve been through a war. That’s the way it should be. I don’t go in there – there’s a thing called phoning it in.’
