For decades, Brits have been treated to a cheesy joke when they pick up a Penguin bar for a snack.

Now, to mark World Penguin Day, McVitie’s has asked Brits to vote for the funniest joke found on the back of their Penguin snacks, which first launched in 1932.

More than 73% of those surveyed said they always read the jokes on their Penguin bars, and 92% revealed the jokes make them smile.

But after polling 2,000 adults, the nation’s favourite Penguin biscuit joke has been revealed as: ‘What was the name of the Emperor Penguin? Julius Freezer’.

Joining in on the World Penguin Day celebrations are the Humboldt penguins at London Zoo’s Penguin Beach – who were spotted having a brrr-illiant time as zookeepers treated the waddle to their own comedy show of the top 10.

As well as a little laugh, Brits will be able to learn more about penguins as the jokes will now be joined with fun penguin facts by the ZSL (Zoological Society of London) experts.

Adam Woolf at McVitie’s, said: ‘Penguin biscuits, and their famous one-liner jokes, have been putting a smile on the faces of families for decades.

‘What better way to celebrate them this World Penguin Day than with our proud partners ZSL – who are working across the world to protect animals just like Humboldt penguins.’

‌Humbolt penguins are native to the shores of Peru and Chile, and often only grow to be about two feet tall, weighing in around 8 pounds.

The London Zoo is home to a small bunch of the adorable penguins.
