Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord would be a perfect member for the Multiverse Saga Avengers now that he is done with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and his Marvel Cinematic Universe future tease could lead to that. Pratt has played Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in every MCU project for the Guardians of the Galaxy so far. With a decade in the franchise, the character’s future might hold a different superhero team for Star-Lord. That is because of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which served as a finale for the original members of the cosmic team.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was the final MCU project for director James Gunn, who will now shepherd the DC Universe with at least ten years of projects in mind. Besides Gunn, other actors from the franchise have either directly said they were done with their characters, as was Dave Bautista’s case with Drax, or kept the door open for a future return. Star-Lord is a different case from the others, as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s ending did not include him as part of the new team but teased his MCU future, which could include the Avengers.

Peter Quill’s Current Location Makes That More Likely

At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Pratt’s Star-Lord finally came back to his home world. After being estranged since he was kidnapped by Yondu as a child, Peter Quill reunited with his grandfather in one of the most emotional scenes in MCU history. While the movie could have served as the perfect finale for the characters who did not remain as members of the cosmic team, with Rocket leading the new Guardians of the Galaxy squad that includes Groot, Star-Lord was specifically revealed to return in the future.

Just before the curtains closed, The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return” appeared on the screen. Star-Lord’s confirmed MCU future and the fact that the hero is now on Earth could lead to him finding himself on a new superhero team. The Avengers have not been active since Avengers: Endgame, but Earth’s Mightiest Heroes could be assembling sooner rather than later. CinemaCon footage from Captain America: Brave New World revealed that Thunderbolt Ross asks Sam Wilson to form a new Avengers team. With the Avengers on the horizon and Star-Lord on Earth, the timing is perfect for Pratt to become an Avenger.

Why Star-Lord Joining The Avengers Would Make Sense

Chris Pratt Is A Big Name

Since joining the MCU, Pratt has become a bona fide movie star, with lead roles in live-action blockbusters such as the Jurassic World franchise and even branching out into animated mega-hits like The Super Mario Bros. Movie. In the MCU, Pratt has contributed to making the Guardians of the Galaxy one of Marvel’s most successful franchises, with Star-Lord acting as the leader of the team. The actor’s fan-favorite status is crucial for the new Avengers team, as the Multiverse Saga has not been kind to the MCU, and Marvel Studios needs all the help it can get.

In recent years, the MCU has faced more criticism than ever before. However, despite many projects underperforming or receiving bad reviews, a few shined through, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has emerged as the best movie in the Multiverse Saga thus far. The project was universally beloved and a box office success, and a lot of that has to do with Pratt’s portrayal of Star-Lord. Based on that, using a fan-favorite star in the next Avengers team is perfect for Marvel, and it fits Marvel’s new mandate of focusing on popular franchises and characters.

Peter Quill Is Out Of His Element

Star-Lord and the MCU Avengers

Star-Lord’s life was completely changed when his mom died and Yondu kidnapped him immediately after. Quill had to adapt to a life in space among a band of pirates. After finding the Guardians of the Galaxy, Pratt’s Star-Lord slowly began to make his own family in space, with the team being the MCU’s perfect found family, which led to an emotional send-off in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as the heroes parted ways. Now on Earth, Star-Lord would make for a fine addition to the Avengers, but the team would be very different from what he is used to.

Despite being human, Quill was taken from Earth as a child, and after spending most of his years in space, the character will have to adapt to his new home and possible teammates. Instead of dealing with aliens, Star-Lord would be on a team made up of mostly human heroes if he joined the Avengers. More than that, as Captain America has been requested to form a new version of the team, the Avengers will not have the emotional bond that the Guardians of the Galaxy had developed, which would prove a major shift for Peter Quill.

In What Future MCU Projects Could Star-Lord Appear

The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return

Based on the possibility of Star-Lord joining the Avengers, two projects are possible to serve as the next time the character will be seen in the MCU. After Phases 1-3 each had at least one movie for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the MCU’s Phase 6 will be the first to release an Avengers film since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Star-Lord could be part of the new team that forms in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty before fighting to save the multiverse in Avengers: Secret Wars.

If the character does not join the Avengers, or even if he does, Star-Lord could also appear next in a solo project. The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 tease that the character would return did seem like it was pointing towards a project focused on the hero, and James Gunn has revealed that he and Pratt had discussed making a Star-Lord solo film. While Gunn is out, Pratt’s Star-Lord could find himself having adventures of his own under a new director in a solo movie.

Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Brad Winderbaum, recently confirmed another MCU project that could see Star-Lord appear. A Nova series is in development, and Pratt’s Star-Lord would be perfect for the show. A buddy cop series with Richard Rider as Nova and Pratt’s Star-Lord has the potential to stretch the MCU’s cosmic corner in exciting new ways. Peter Quill’s past run-ins with the Nova Corps have already established a possible connection to the Nova series, and a role in the project would not impact Star-Lord‘s possible status as one of the new Avengers.
