Samsung has introduced its fastest LPDDR5X memory that boasts an incredible 10.7Gbps speed. Scheduled for the second half of this year, these chips should help upcoming battery-powered devices deliver even more performance.

According to Samsung, the new LPDDR5X chips utilise power-saving technologies that adjust according to workload. Alongside expanded low-power mode intervals, the brand claims more energy-saving and 25% higher efficiency over the previous generation. This means longer battery life for mobile devices or less battery requirements for size-constrained ones.

Samsung’s 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X RAM also improves performance by more than 25% while offering 30% higher capacity when compared to the previous generation. This results in 32GB chips, allowing small devices to carry more RAM without taking extra space. This capacity is possible thanks to a smaller 12nm process.

In other words, Samsung’s 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X tackles all DRAM aspects to offer a compelling solution fitting today’s data-hungry tasks. The brand even markets this generation as suitable for PCs, accelerators, and servers.

“As demand for low-power, high-performance memory increases, LPDDR DRAM is expected to expand its applications from mainly mobile to other areas that traditionally require higher performance and reliability such as PCs, accelerators, servers and automobiles,” said YongCheol Bae, Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning of the Memory Business at Samsung Electronics.

Mass production of 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X memory is planned to begin by the second half of the year. This new generation would perfectly fit upcoming laptops and gaming handhelds that can greatly benefit from the increased bandwidth. Maybe inside an efficient laptop powered by the Snapdragon X chip, perhaps?
