Hollywood Producer Carol Baum Criticizes Sydney Sweeney’s Looks and Talent

During a recent discussion after a screening of her 1988 film “Dead Ringers,” top Hollywood producer Carol Baum, known for films like “Father of the Bride,” made controversial remarks about actress Sydney Sweeney, questioning her attractiveness and acting skills, according to reports by the Daily Mail.

Baum reportedly expressed her confusion about the widespread attention Sweeney receives, stating that she doesn’t understand the hype surrounding the actress. Baum’s criticism came after watching Sweeney’s latest film, “Anyone But You,” on an airplane, which she described as “unwatchable.”

Furthermore, Baum shared her disappointment in her students at The University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, who couldn’t provide a satisfactory explanation for Sweeney’s popularity. She challenged them to explain why Sweeney, whom she described as “not pretty” and unable to act, is considered a sought-after talent in Hollywood.

Despite her reservations about Sweeney, Baum admitted that she might still consider producing a movie with the actress if it meant the project would receive approval. She emphasized the importance of getting a film made and acknowledged that nobody in the industry would turn down a green light opportunity.

Sweeney, known for her roles in HBO’s “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus,” has garnered significant attention in recent years, earning Emmy nominations for her performances. However, Baum’s criticism adds to the ongoing debate about Sweeney’s acting abilities and her rapid rise to fame.

“Anyone But You,” one of Sweeney’s recent films, received mixed reviews but achieved commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated romantic comedy since 2016. Despite rumors of an affair between Sweeney and her co-star Glen Powell, which surfaced prior to the film’s release, Sweeney denied the allegations during a hosting gig on “Saturday Night Live,” asserting that she and her fiancé Jonathan Davino produced the movie together.
