Branded the ‘worst Coachella performance ever’, poor Grimes was plagued with technical issues for her first weekend set.
Arriving on the stage in a giant metalwork spider, the 36-year-old artist — who leant her voice to AI music — looked as unhinged as ever ready to wow fans in Indio, California.
However, her short 50-minute set quickly derailed and she let out a huge scream as things didn’t quite go to plan when debuting her new song Music 4 Machines.
‘F**king! UGHHHHHHH,’ came her shout as the music cut out abruptly and the extensive display of screens behind her turned to black.
Previously, the ex of Elon Musk had stunned with a mashup of BLACKPINK star Jennie‘s Solo and Rihanna’s B***h Better Have My Money.
‘This is a difficult thing to explain but we’re having a major technical error,’ Grimes revealed to fans as she attempted to restart the single multiple times.
‘Don’t judge me for being bad a calculating things,’ Grimes, real name Claire Elise Boucher, shared as she explained her music was playing at double speed.
She continued: ‘All my tracks are double tempo and I can’t do the math. They’re borderline un-mixable, so the rest of my set won’t be mixes but it’ll still be fun.’
Letting out another blood-curdling few screams to vent her frustration as she started her songs once again.
Grimes finished her set but promised to have the difficulties ironed out by weekend two of Coachella, which runs from April 19 to April 21.
However, those attending this set were less than impress as she was blasted online for her explanations and derailed music.
‘This could be the worst performance in the history of Coachella,’ wrote Tim Martell on X as he lamented her not being able to change the beats per minute (BPM).
‘”Being bad at math is not a sin”,’ shared Cherry, ‘😭😭 this Grimes set is hard to watch.’
Sherry Yan Jiang added: ‘Grimes at Coachella has got to be one of the weirdest experiences I’ve had watching Coachella sets.
‘I felt a strange mix of hilarity (how could you mess up so badly) and sympathy (I understand as a music performer before how nerves can get the better of you on stage).’
Some fans did hype her up, saying the performance was good despite the issues which she will hopefully iron out by next weekend.
Grimes went official with her new partner just last month, who fans identified as EDM artist Anyma from pictures the pair posted on Instagram.
She had previously been dating the Space X founder, with whom she shares three kids; X Æ A-Xii, four, Exa Dark Sideræl, two, and Techno Mechanicus, six months.
The pair had a turbulent romance, with the singer now reportedly suing Elon, 52, to determine the legal parent of the kids.
