It feels a little like Meta Quest 2 is the last bastion of the budget world. After all, the VR headset is the only device that keeps on cutting prices while other gadgets balloon. Rather than a limited-time deal, however, its latest discount is the new MSRP.

Taking to the official Meta blog, the brand reaffirmed its commitment to value VR, “doubling down by making our recent price drop permanent.” If you’ve held off on getting a headset, now is the time to cop one, as the 128GB model is just $199.

This isn’t exclusive to any particular storefront, but some have yet to take note. For example, Meta itself, Best Buy, and Amazon all feature the new price, but B&H and Newegg haven’t adjusted yet.

  • Elite Strap: $29.99 / £29.99 – $49.99 / £49.99
  • Carrying Case: $19.99 / £19.99 – $44.99 / £44.99
  • Elite Strap with Battery: $44.99 / £44.99 – $89.99 / £84.99
  • Active Pack: $29.99 / £29.99 – $59.99 / £59.99
  • Fit Pack: $19.99 / £19.99 – $39.99 / £39.99

Unfortunately, the 256GB model has yet to follow suit, but Meta has discounted plenty of its accessories. You can grab the Elite Strap with Battery for just $44.99 (formerly $89.99), the strap on its own for $24.99, the official carrying case for only $19.99, the Active Pack for $29.99, and the Fit Pack for $19.99. The brand didn’t say whether these are temporary or permanent, but an educated guess would say these deals aren’t going anywhere. Still, don’t hang around just in case they disappear.

It’s not surprising that the VR headset deal has become permanent, given it’s stayed at $199 for a few weeks. What is shocking, though, is that it’s only been four months since its last permanent reduction. Back in January, Meta kicked off the year by reducing its 128GB headset to $229.99 and 256GB model to $269.99. Another $30 off certainly isn’t anything to scoff at.

Even in 2024, there’s nothing out there that gives Meta Quest 2 a run for its money. It’s untethered, has more than 500 titles, still gets software updates to this day, and sits in a price bracket of its own. PSVR 2 could become a close rival when it gets PC support this year, but not if it costs double. Look at any other headset cost and you might as well consider Meta Quest 3 on Amazon for how much more you’re paying.
