Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez is aiming to feature in his side’s Premier League clash against Brentford next Saturday.

The Argentine was given permission by his club to continue his rehabilitation from a knee injury with the national side this week.

It was felt that Martinez was best served being surrounded by his national team-mates, rather than stuck at Carrington during an international break.

Martinez was able to participate in training as he recovers from a medial ligament injury sustained against West Ham six weeks ago.

United had Martinez back for a short period before he got injured again, having missed most of the first half of the season following surgery on his foot.

Erik ten Hag has been forced to lean on Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof in recent weeks, with Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans sustaining injuries of their own at different points.

But the Daily Mail say the Red Devils could have Martinez back for their trip to north-west London.

Martinez flew home from the east-coast of America over the weekend and will be back at Carrington on Monday to work on his fitness.

It’s a major boost for Ten Hag, who has seen the club’s injury crisis ease in the last fortnight.

Harry Maguire, Mason Mount, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Rasmus Hojlund returned for the thrilling 4-3 win against Liverpool before the international break.

Luke Shaw is sidelined until May, while Anthony Martial is still around three weeks away from returning.
