Steam Deck is almost like the Apple Mac of gaming handhelds, all about a smooth experience with tailored software. Lenovo Legion Go, on the other hand, is a beefy gaming PC that brute forces better performance with raw hardware. Those frame rates aren’t free, however, usually costing you a bit of a premium. The keyword there is usually, as there’s currently an unmissable deal putting Legion Go at its best price ever.
A 10% discount chops Lenovo Legion Go down to $628.99 on Amazon US, which is the lowest we’ve ever seen it. Similarly, 7% off on Amazon UK plummets the price to £649, which is also the cheapest it’s ever been. Sadly, the device is still full price in Europe, but you might be able to import one from the UK site if you’re willing to brave customs.
Legion Go is one of the biggest handheld gaming PCs out there with a huge 8.8in screen. The 2560 x 1600 has a unique 16:10 aspect ratio that’ll dazzle you with its IPS-level colours. The 144Hz refresh rate is also market leading for a portable, making your games look silky smooth.
Powering everything is an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme. It’s already well-documented how good this processor is for handhelds since it also appears in Asus ROG Ally. As it stands, the Zen 4 architecture and RDNA 3 graphics are still the best out there, as Intel has yet to leave its mark.
16GB of RAM is quickly becoming the minimum system requirement for games in 2024. While other portables don’t quite pack enough, Legion Go does, meaning it should hold its own in newer titles for longer. Granted, 512GB of storage is a little on the low side but you can expand this using a Micro SD card.
Weight is perhaps Legion Go’s biggest battle, as all this hardware adds a bit of heft. When your arms get tired, it’s as simple as detaching the controllers Nintendo Switch-style and propping the screen up. While OneXPlayer 2 has emulated the Joy-Con-like remotes, Legion Go is still the only one that also packs a trackpad. It’s not as responsive or satisfying as Steam Deck, but it makes playing Civilization VI and other strategy games possible.
You might notice it’s a frequently returned item on Amazon US, but don’t despair. Lenovo regularly provides updates to improve the handheld, and it’s better now than it’s ever been. If you’re unhappy with it, you too can simply send the item back within the retailer’s 30-day return window for a full refund. There’s no reason not to try it for yourself.
