Late Night With The Devil Sets Major Streaming Record

Late Night With The Devil crosses a major streaming milestone for streaming service Shudder. Written and directed by the duo of Colin and Cameron Cairnes, the independent supernatural horror movie revolves around a 1977 live television broadcast where an over-eager late night talk show host, in an attempt to boost ratings, unknowingly unleashes evil into the living rooms of unsuspecting viewers. Prior to its theatrical release, Late Night With The Devil received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and other notable figures, including Stephen King, which in turn translated into commercial success for the horror flick.

Now, according to Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, supernatural fiction titles and other related genres, Late Night With The Devil, with its April 19 streaming debut, broke the record for the streamer’s biggest opening weekend ever. The movie has become the most watched release on both Shudder and AMC+, surpassing Demián Rugna’s When Evil Lurks and V/H/S/99, the two previous record holders in their first full weeks.

Will Late Night With The Devil’s Success Lead To A Sequel?

Even though many might not have predicted Late Night With The Devil’s commercial success, especially how quickly it has come, it shouldn’t come as a complete surprise either. As mentioned previously, the movie received rave reviews even prior to its official theatrical release, with one of the major stamps of approval coming from King, who was given an advance version of the film. The iconic horror author labeled the movie as “absolutely brilliant” and urged his audience to check it out.

This assent from one of the genre’s most notable figures aided the movie’s chances of success and following its theatrical release, the movie earned $2.8 million in its first three days, setting a record for its studio, IFC Films. On the review aggregator website, Late Night With The Devil currently boasts an impressive 97% approval rating, making it one of the highest rated horror releases in 2024, and one of the highest rated releases of the year so far.

Taking into account the commercial and critical success of Late Night With The Devil, it’s not far-fetched to assume that the Cairnes brothers, along with Shudder, might be considering a sequel to this movie. As of right now, there’s no concrete news regarding a sequel to the hit horror movie, though considering Late Night With The Devil’s ambiguous ending, which leaves room for future iterations, and the fact that V/H/S/99, which similarly did well on Shudder, received a sequel, there’s every reason to believe Late Night With The Devil might be returning to screens once again.
