Julian Nagelsmann says it’s ‘not impossible’ that he will extend his deal with Germany to beyond this summer.

The coach took over the national side on a short-term deal following his exit from Bayern Munich last season.

Nagelsmann was persuaded to do so given the prospect of leading Germany out at a home European Championships this summer.

The former RB Leipzig coach was stung by his time at Bayern, where he lasted less than 18 months.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Nagelsmann, given the uncertainty over Erik ten Hag’s position.

The German, just 36, is precisely the sort of manager that INEOS’ data-driven team are targeting.

But Nagelsmann, who orchestrated a 2-0 win against France in Paris on Saturday, says he could remain at the helm for his nation beyond this summer.

‘That depends a bit on the offer. Generally speaking, I’m of course happy when the protagonists are satisfied with the coaching staff,’ said Nagelsmann.

‘It’s not impossible, but it’s not a given either. The focus is on the Euros.’

German Football Federation president Bernd Neuendorf has confirmed that they’re in talks with Nagelsmann over an extension.

‘It would be absolutely desirable from our side (to extend Nagelsmann’s contract),’ he said.

‘We’re a good team, we get on well, we’re in intensive dialogue.’
