Legendary Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has explained why he has stopped attending games despite living ‘two minutes’ from Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho enjoyed two successful spells at Chelsea, securing back-to-back Premier League titles as well as the FA Cup and two League Cups in his first stint.
‘The Special One’ returned to west London in 2013, delivering a third Premier League trophy as well as another League Cup title before departing in 2015.
It was recently rumoured that Mourinho was being lined up for a third spell in charge of the Blues amid mounting pressure on current boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Following a dissapointing 2-2 draw against Brentford in March, Chelsea fans chanted Mourinho’s name, hoping for their legendary boss to come back.
‘I’ve always kept myself apart from any unethical behaviour,’ Mourinho told Portuguese outlet A Bola.
‘In London, I live two minutes from Chelsea’s stadium, from my house you can hear the goals and people’s demonstrations.
‘The day the stadium started singing my name, I stopped going to football. I have to go to other stadiums.
‘It takes 20-30 minutes from my [other] house to [Benfica’s stadium] Luz. I went to two or three games.
‘They started asking questions like [will you become manager] and I’m not going anymore. They screwed my life up with those questions.’
Chelsea’s current squad is ‘not strong enough’ to work with Mourinho were the former Blues boss to return to Stamford Bridge, William Gallas has warned.
‘With Jose, you have to give him the right players, it’s that simple,’ Gallas said. ‘You have to give him warriors and the right players who want to fight and who want to make sacrifices and aren’t scared to suffer. If Chelsea gave him these types of players, he would be a great choice.
‘I don’t know the players so well but I think some of the players aren’t strong enough to work with Mourinho. With Mourinho, you also have to fight for your place in training and I think some of Chelsea’s players are too soft.’
