Cast and Characters

Paddy Considine as King Viserys I Targaryen: King Viserys Targaryen was the key figure in House of the Dragon, as much of the Game of Thrones prequel centered around the subject of succession, specifically who would inherit the Iron Throne after his death.

Milly Alcock as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen: Milly Alcock was the first actress to play Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, portraying the young princess prior to the dramatic 10-year time shift introduced in Season 1, Episode 6. The daring young dragon rider was the sole child of King Viserys’ marriage to Aemma Arryn, and despite her father’s initial preference for a son, she was named the Iron Throne’s first female heir.

Emma D’Arcy – Queen Rhaenyra I Targaryen: Rhaenyra Targaryen was represented by Emma D’Arcy beginning in Episode 6, with the heir to the Iron Throne now having three bastard children – Princes Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey – who were fathered by Ser Harwin Strong.

Matt Smith – Prince Daemon Targaryen: Matt Smith portrayed Prince Daemon Targaryen as a harsh, brutal, and power-hungry legendary warrior. Although he was briefly heir to the Iron Throne, a feud with his brother, King Viserys I, resulted in his deposition.

Emily Carey – Young Alicent Hightower: Alicent Hightower, one of the younger characters in House of the Dragon, will be recast following the Season 1 time shift. Emily Carey, who previously portrayed a young Diana in the 2017 film Wonder Woman, will be the first to take on the part.

Olivia Cooke – Queen Alicent Hightower: Olivia Cooke replaced Emily Carey as the older Alicent Hightower, who is now queen of Westeros by virtue of her marriage to King Viserys Targaryen, following the midpoint time shift in House of the Dragon.

Rhys Ifans – Ser Otto Hightower: Otto Hightower, portrayed by Rhys Ifans in The Amazing Spider-Man, was renowned as one of the wisest and most intelligent individuals in Westeros. This reputation grew so strong that King Jaehaerys Targaryen appointed him Hand of the King, a position he held until the reign of King Viserys.

Eve Best – Princess Rhaenys Targaryen: Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, wife of Lord Corlys Velaryon, is the cousin of King Viserys and granddaughter of his predecessor on the Iron Throne, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen.

Steve Toussaint – Lord Corlys Velaryon: Lord Corlys Velaryon, the wealthiest man in Westeros who serves as Master of Ships on King Viserys’ limited council, was dubbed the Sea Snake for his adventuring past, which is rumored to be the subject of a future spin-off.
