Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) delivered some absolutely heartbreaking news to best friend Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) in Wednesday’s (May 1) edition of Coronation Street.
Following Tracy Barlow’s (Kate Ford) departure, Steve decided to get back into the world of romance by joining a dating app.
He bagged himself a few matches and tonight, he went on a date.
As Steve headed into the pub dressed to impress, he was a little taken aback to discover Carole had brought some friends along too.
They sat down in a booth and moments later, Tim entered the pub ready for his lunch.
Aurora, one of Carole’s friends, spotted Tim and invited him to sit down. This was terribly timed, as Sally (Sally Dynevor) then arrived and saw her husband hanging around with a group of drunk women.
Utterly humiliated, Sally forced Tim to return home.
There, as Sal sorted the washing, she reminded Tim that he’s a married man and if he continued hanging out with Steve while he went on dates, people might start talking.
Tim realised his mistake and apologised, but didn’t expect Sal to tell him that he could no longer see Steve outside of work.
The horror.
That evening, as Tim put the bins out – wearing his Weathy County shorts, might we add – Steve saw him and headed over.
Tim then broke the news that he’s going to stop hanging out with him for a little while.

‘We both want different things’, Tim said, as Steve’s heart started to break.
‘You’re finishing with me?!’, he asked.
Tim said they can still see each other at work and the distance between them won’t last forever, but nothing he said made Steve feel any better.
Devastating.
