It appears Barbra Streisand might need to be reminded of the differences between Instagram comments and Instagram DMs.

The showbiz legend left the internet aghast when she very publicly asked actress Melissa McCarthy if she had taken Ozempic.

Controversial drug Ozempic is actually a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes, but it has hit the headlines in recent years after A-listers started using it to shed a few pounds.

Now, Melissa, 53, has never declared herself an Ozempic user but, given how her weight has fluctuated over the years, Barbra reckoned it was appropriate to quiz her on her methods – and the memes write themselves.

Melissa took to Instagram with a photo of herself and pal Adam Shankman at the CTG The Gala in Los Angeles, looking stunning wearing a ruffled mint dress and blazer.

Hair billowing in the wind, the snap was high glam and showcased Melissa’s trim physique.

Keen to point this out, musician Barbra, 82, wrote in the comments: Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?’

Her brazen remark seems to have now been deleted but where social media exists, so do screenshots.

Reposting the comment online, X user LucaGuadagnegro hailed the ‘unfiltered’ comment as ‘incredible’.

‘Barbra Streisand commenting “did you take Ozempic” on Melissa McCarthy’s latest insta today is one of the most insane things I’ve ever seen’, wrote LizArcury.

‘Omg. I think she thought this was a DM ?’, posted notcapnamerica.

‘Nah that’s just how boomers use social media’, joked LDBlondePod in reply.

‘Barbra put the phone down’, mocked kay_unwritten.

Viraltitokvids stated that ‘boomers on Instagram cannot be trusted’ whilepontifucc compared the shocking remark to ‘my mother on Facebook’.

Others have urged the Oscar winner’s team to ‘take her phone away’ but, honestly, if these are the unhinged comments she leaves when her social media usage isn’t monitored, we’re not going to stop her.

Melissa’s original post has over 170,000 likes thus far, with her followers also not blind to her changing appearance in recent times.

Many noted how ‘healthy’ she appears, while several also called out Barbra for ‘disgusting’ unsolicited remarks, deeming it none of her business whether Melissa had taken the drug or not.

The Emmy Award winner has spoken openly about her weight loss journey in the past, telling The Guardian in 2016: ‘I’ve been every size in the world, from a six to a 22.’

A few years after she secured her first big role on Gilmore Girls, she attempted a doctor-supervised all-liquid diet, which led to her shedding 70 pounds in just four months.

‘I’d never do that again,’ she later told People. ‘I felt starved and crazy half the time.’

She later started losing pounds in a much safer way, prompting questions about her noticeable weight loss, which is said to have been a further 75 pounds as of 2019.

However, she’s adamant that her ‘secret’ is really just a change in lifestyle.

‘No trick, nothing to tell, just super boring life,’ she said to Extra.

‘You bring it real down, you don’t do anything fun, and you go to bed at 7:30 — that’s the trick.’

Melissa has also emphatically denied undergoing a gastric bypass procedure.

As far as Ozempic is concerned, Melissa isn’t the first star to be caught up in speculation that she’s taken in.

In fact, many of the world’s biggest celebs have been incredibly open about it.

Oprah Winfrey has endorsed the drug as a spokesperson for Novo Nordisk, the company that makes Ozempic.

Meanwhile, Keke Palmer revealed she takes Ozempic to manage her polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Amy Schumer has slammed fellow celebs for lying about taking it and claimed she takes it for her endometriosis while, in contrast, comedian Chelsea Handler accidentally took Ozempic, thinking it was a vitamin shot, and experienced nausea and diarrhoea.
