Another Australian TV presenter has found themselves in a spine-tingling encounter with wildlife after a snake wrapped itself around his neck live on-air.

On a recent episode of panel affairs programme The Project, hosts Rove McManus and Georgie Tunny agreed to have snakes placed on them while presenting a segment about the return of the local version of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!

While their co-host Michael Hing took the lead and carried out the interview, Rove increasingly looked uncomfortable as the snake tightened around his neck.

‘Guys this is insane! This is insane to be doing this as Rove is being choked over there,’ Michael exclaimed, clearly distracted by what was happening next to him.

Jumping in, Rove joked: ‘My safe word is tighter. Is that a problem?’

‘Seriously it is now making sure I cannot move,’ he added as the snake named Geraldine wrapped itself around his body too.

He later joked that ‘everyone else is seeing stars right’ when asked if he was doing ok.

Clearly having no desire to participate, panellist Susie Youssef showed off the snake she was handling on the desk – a small lolly one.

‘Look how brave I’m being right now,’ she joked before giving a panicked look to the camera like she wanted to stay as far away from the others as possible.

Unsurprisingly, many people watching on at home were slightly worried.

‘I feel very uncomfortable watching,’ Allana Bianchi commented on Instagram.

‘I’ve never seen Rove’s face so red, that was bit of a worry! Brave Rove and co-host,’ Taner Remzi shared.

‘Holy Moly, there’s no way I would have a SNAKE anywhere near me,’ Tanya added.

Over the past few months, several Australian broadcasters have had run-ins with animals.

Last month, Andrea Crothers, a journalist for Channel 9’s Today Show, was delivering a report when a mosquito landed on her nose, leading her to slap herself in the face to get rid of it.

A few weeks later Christine Ahern, a reporter on the same show, started screaming when a massive bug appeared to disappear down her dress.

Then, this month, Channel 10’s Ursula Heger found herself being swooped several times by a bird while trying to read out a news report.

The Project airs on Channel 10 in Australia.
