Asus has issued an official statement regarding ROG Ally SD card issues, promising reimbursement and extended warranty for affected customers. If you are one of the unlucky users, contact local customer service.

Following its investigation regarding SD card damages caused by ROG Ally’s card reader, Asus has announced that it will extend its card reader warranty from 12 months to 24 months. Additionally, the brand will reimburse any damaged SD cards according to their proof of purchase or their fair market value if you don’t have your receipt.

To claim, simply contact your local customer service and send your ROG Ally alongside any damaged SD cards plus their proof of purchase to the RMA service. Meanwhile, if you’ve already sent your ROG Ally to RMA before yet didn’t get reimbursed for the damaged SD card, you can contact support again to get compensated.

Moreover, if you no longer want to keep your ROG Ally (2023) RC71L for some reason, you can return it and get a full refund. Naturally, there is a caveat. This guarantee only applies to purchases from Asus directly that are less than 90 days old. Still, it’s a commendable move that shows the company cares about its products and customers.

“We have become aware that a small number of SD card readers in the ROG Ally (2023) RC71L may not perform as expected,” says Asus. “We’re therefore extending the warranty on the SD card reader from twelve to twenty-four months. We’ll reimburse you for SD cards damaged by the SD card reader if you send the card(s) to us along with proof of purchase when you return your Ally for RMA service. If you do not have proof of purchase for your damaged SD card(s), we will reimburse the card’s(s’) fair market value as determined by us.

“If you previously sent your Ally to us for warranty service and did not receive a reimbursement for a damaged SD card, you can contact us to discuss receiving reimbursement. In lieu of RMA service, you can return your Ally to us for a full refund within 90 days of purchase if you purchased your Ally (2023) RC71L from Asus directly.”

Contact details for the United States branch are 1-888-678-3688 or via the website: https://www.asus.com/us/support/. If you live outside of the United States, Asus encourages you to “contact your local customer service to request an RMA for your unit.”

While Asus didn’t give more details regarding the rest of the world, EU countries, for example, already enforce a minimum warranty of two years, with some demanding more. That said, it’s unclear if the SD card reimbursement and 90-day handheld refund apply to them.

This is just the latest in Asus’s efforts to update the handheld, making it better for everyone. If you plan on getting an ROG Ally from Amazon, note that Asus has made some changes to its handheld to alleviate this issue.
